There are places where light plays on and through moving water, where water wears hard at hard shores. These places--lakes, rivers, and ocean shores-- have always beckoned to me. As I paddle my kayak along the shorelines of New York’s Finger Lakes, I gather beach stones and fossils, beach glass and other water-sculpted objects that delight and fascinate me.

I am also drawn to a certain sense of mystery that old things evoke—hints of stories past that shape the present. Old beads mutely collect stories through the years. They are handed down to children or friends, bought, sold, traded, buried, unearthed, carried along on journeys, lost and sometimes found, and worn again and again and again. From time to time, beads tell their stories through the words that travel with them. More often, though, they speak through what can be seen – telling tales in their patterns and patina, their shapes, the materials from which they were made and how they were formed.

So... using beach stones and other water-worn treasures, paired with story-laden beads and hand-me-down metals, I construct my unique designs—each with its memories of water-washed shores and ever changing light; each carrying its beads on the next leg of the journey.
